Inventory observation when you have more than one warehouse
When inventory sits in Taipei, Taoyuan, and a bonded facility, count day becomes a logistics problem as much as an accounting one.
Agree the count date early enough that auditors can staff each material location. If one site is immaterial, we may use alternative procedures — but “immaterial” must be supported by the ledger, not by convenience.
Freeze receiving and shipping windows in writing. Partial freezes that leave night shifts moving goods create reconciling items that consume the following week.
Count sheets should use the same SKU language as the perpetual system. Translating between customer part numbers and internal codes during the count is how variances multiply.
After the count, reconcile to the general ledger within a few days while memories are fresh. Waiting until draft statements are nearly final makes every variance feel like a crisis.
